HISTORICAL SITE OF THE GRIMALDIS OF MONACO - MAYENNE
On May 5, H.S.H. Prince Albert II will visit the town of Mayenne, on the lands of His ancestors. The links between Monaco and Mayenne date back to 1777, when Honoré Grimaldi married Louise d'Aumont, Duchess of Mayenne and descendant of Cardinal Mazarin. Through this union, the Duchy of Mayenne was offered to the Grimaldi family. Over the centuries, the city has maintained close relations with the princely family. Part of the archives of the Château de Mayenne, which served as a prison during the reign of the Grimaldis, is still carefully preserved by the Principality.
