RAINIER III - CONSTITUTION OF 1962
On December 17, 1962, Prince Rainier III promulgates a new constitution which completes the institutional system of 1911 and enshrines "the rule of law". The monarchy proclaims itself constitutional. The text firmly establishes the source of sovereignty and guarantees its exercise through effective rules. The 1962 constitution abolishes the death penalty and officially enshrines principles and symbols to which the Principality is very attached: the state religion, the national flag and the official language.
