The Maison Detaille occupies a predominant place in the field of photography in the Principality. Detaille Photographers have developed their talent in several areas, notably for official portraits of Monegasque Sovereigns, Sporting galas, cinematographic shots, aerial photos, war photos, the Grand Prix, class photos of the Principality and documentaries. The history of the Detaille family began in 1904 with the arrival of Georges Detaille senior (1875-1955) in the Principality. An accident on his wrist forced him to seek assistance from his son Georges (1909-1994) at the age of 13. In 1923, both were called by Serge de Diaghilev to photograph his dance company. Which gave Georges fils the idea, several years later, to create Editions Detaille, notably with a book on “Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo”. Witness to the Second World War in Monaco, he published and republished with his brother Fernand (1914-2010) two major works “Monaco under the barbed wire”. With Fernand, he covered the Prince's Wedding in 1956 and from 1944 to 1983 took aerial photographs which still make it possible today to analyze the urban development of Monaco.
