70 YEARS OF RAINIER III’S ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS
A great animal lover, Prince Rainier III founded the Monaco Zoological Acclimatization Center in 1954 after a trip to Africa from which He returned with around thirty injured animals. Overlooking the Port of Fontvieille on the southern flank of the Rock, the zoological gardens are home to nearly three hundred animals of around sixty different species. What makes them unique is that their animals were all donated or were abandoned or seized by customs.
