60^th ANNIVERSARY OF AMADE

Founded in 1963 at the initiative of Princess Grace, and today chaired par H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the Word Association of Children’s Friends, AMADE, is built on a vision of a world where children, regardless of their social, religious, or cultural origins, can live safely and with dignity and respect for their fundamental rights. Its missions are to protect the most vulnerable children from violence, exploitation, and abuse, and to promote the development of children by contributing to access to education and health. Now boasting a network of partners deployed over four continents, AMADE helps more than 40’000 children each year.

70^th ANNIVERSARY OF THE YACHT CLUB DE MONACO FOUNDED BY PRINCE RAINIER III

Keen to develop a structure capable of attracting and retaining the loyalty of the yachting fraternity worldwide, Prince Rainier III founded the Yacht Club de Monaco in 1953 with a vision that it would be a key element in the future development of the port and tourism in the Principality. President of the Yacht Club since April 1984, H.S.H. Prince Albert II has emphasized the sporting aspect of the club, by strengthening the training structures for young sailors and by creating new international events such as the Monaco Classic Week, the Primo Cup and, more recently, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Since 2014, the new Club House, designed by Lord Norman Foster, has encouraged the creation of the “Yachting Monaco” Cluster and “La Belle Classe Academy”, a training center specializing in super yachting. An approach to affirm Monaco's position as the world capital of yachting.

400^th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF BLAISE PASCAL

Born in Clermont-Ferrand on June 19, 1623, Blaise Pascal was educated by his father after his mother died when he was only three years old. A precocious child, at the age of 16 he wrote an Essai sur les coniques and completed his pascaline in 1645. In mathematics, his probability theory and his "Treatise on the arithmetic triangle" became famous. His work will be of great value for the future of statistics. In physics, Pascal wrote a treatise on vacuum, invented the hydraulic press, and perfected Torricelli's barometer. In 1654, after having been close to death in a car accident and having had a mystical experience, Pascal decided to devote himself to God and religion. He elaborates the principles of his philosophical doctrine centered on the opposition of the two fundamental elements of knowledge: on the one hand, reason with its mediations which tend towards exactitude and logic, and, on the other hand, the heart, intuitive, able to learn the ineffable, the religious and the moral. Pascal's conceptions are collected in the works  Les Provinciales (1656-1657), a set of 18 letters written to defend the Jansenist Antoine Arnauld against the Jesuits, and Pensées (1670), a treatise on spirituality published after his death.
