175e anniversary of Johannes Brahms’ birth
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), was a German composer, pianist and conductor, frequently compared to Beethoven. Close to the Schumann couple, he sometimes was in opposition with Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner’s style. The successful masterpieces like “A German requiem” and “Hungarian dances” were composed while he was living in Vienna. Besides four symphonies and piano concertos, he has been particularly well-appreciated for his chamber music.
