Emma Calvé (1858–1942), a tremendous soprano, was a star before the age of stardom. She won fame in particular through the title role in Georges Bizet’s Carmen, which she performed more than a thousand times during her career. Adored throughout the world, she sang on the stage of the Monte-Carlo Opera several times.
